Jesus, Lover of My Soul

New musical setting (SATB hymn) by Fen Frehner

Text:  Charles Wesley, 1707-1788

Background

As I was inspecting the text, “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” (by Charles Wesley) one day, I toyed with thought about what musical setting would best fit my plans for it.  Things didn’t get very far until I decided that I would treat it as a plea.

Currently, only a hymn format is available (by request), although I may write an arrangement that includes accompaniment.  In its typical hymn format, there aren't really dynamics shown, but there are numerous opportunities for dynamic treatment of the music.

The sheet music is not yet available for this song.  Please contact me if you are interested in performing it.  This song may be purchased by clicking the "Add to Cart" button above to the right, selecting the desired quantity (minimum order is 4 copies), and following the Checkout process.  Shipping & handling is calculated at the cart page based on location.  USPS Priority Mail may be specified at checkout.  A low-resolution version of the sheet music may be downloaded below.

Lyrics

1. Jesus, lover of my soul,Let me to thy bosom fly,While the nearer waters roll,While the tempest still is high.Hide me, O my Savior, hide,Till the storm of life is past.Safe into the haven guide;Oh, receive my soul at last.
2. Other refuge have I none;Hangs my helpless soul on thee.Leave, oh, leave me not alone;Still support and comfort me.All my trust on thee is stayed; All my help from thee I bring.Cover my defenseless headWith the shadow of thy wing.
3.Plenteous grace with thee is found,Grace to cover all my sin;Let the healing streams abound;Make and keep pure within.Thou of life the fountain art,Freely let me take of thee;Spring thou up within my heart,Rise to all eternity.
